Do compression socks make your muscles lazy?
There is sometimes a misunderstanding about compression stockings: that they would make your muscles 'lazy'. That your body would work less hard because the stockings take over the work. Understandable, but not correct. In this blog we explain why that is not true and how compression stockings actually work together with your body without taking over.

Compression supports, it does not replace
Compression stockings apply gradual pressure to your lower legs. This pressure is designed to:
• improve blood circulation,
• reduce muscle tremors,
• and remove waste products more quickly.
But importantly: compression does nothing that your muscles should do themselves. Your calf muscles remain active, even when you wear compression stockings. The stockings support your muscles, but do not take over their function.

Becoming dependent? On the contrary
Compression actually ensures:
• Less muscle fatigue
• Faster recovery after exercise
• Less chance of injuries
And that is why you as an athlete or professional remain active and resilient for longer. If your muscles have to compensate less for shocks or fluid retention, they can function more efficiently.

Compare it to good shoes
A runner also does not become dependent on his running shoes. They help prevent injuries, provide comfort, and support the body during intensive exercise. Compression socks work in the same way: smart, supportive and not a replacement.

In short: your muscles do not become lazy from compression stockings. They are actually given a boost to perform better and recover faster. Compression is a tool and certainly not a reason to reduce your own strength.
