Herzog Compression Socks: now officially rewarded with a unique medical quality mark
- Marketing Herzog
You may have noticed… From May 2021 onwards, our packaging will feature the words 'Medical Compression Technology'. This is not just an empty statement but the mention of something big! Herzog compression socks meet the unique MDR (Medical Device Regulation) quality mark. A special designation that sets us apart. Are you curious what exactly this means?
Compression is not just compression
Nowadays you see compression socks everywhere: in bright colors and beautiful designs... There are many suppliers because it is clear: compression is hot! Unfortunately, in many cases these are socks that are successful in terms of marketing, but whose operating principle has no foundation whatsoever. Unlike many compression providers, Herzog Medical has been in consultation with knitting masters, (para)medics, scientists and (top) athletes since 2001. Our further developments have always emerged from scientific studies. That is precisely why we are very proud that we can now promote the official MDR label.
What does MDR actually mean?
MDR stands for'Medical Device Regulation'. When you sell MDR products, you have a CE quality mark and as a manufacturer you can only make claims that are scientifically substantiated. MDR products have been thoroughly tested by the government and meet very strict requirements with regard to statements you make about your products. Herzog Medical is the pioneer in the field of compression. Our stockings were developed in 2001 from Therapeutic Elastic Stockings (TEK) and our further developments have always been accompanied by scientific studies. The large-scale user study by Franke, TPC, Backx, FJG (2021) recently published inBMC Sports Science, Medicine and Rehabilitationconfirms what we have been promoting for over 20 years.
At Herzog, every athlete is unique
In addition to the scientific evidence, as a compression supplier you can only claim the MDR designation if your sock provide relatively high compression with a pressure profile that exerts the perfect pressure level regardless of the leg shape, length or size. In other words: the compression sequence must be individually tailored to the athlete. This is the case due to our advanced measuring system with 5 measuring points per leg. Whether you are a slender marathon runner of 160cm with a body weight of 48kg or a basketball player of 200cm and 100kg, our socks provide exactly the same high-quality compression therapy for both athletes.
In short, it is not without reason that Herzog Medical has been the market leader for many years and we are unique with our 'Medical Compression Technology'. The MDR label is therefore a nice piece of evidence that we as a team proudly promote.

Former physiotherapist NAC BREDA
“During my time as a physiotherapist at NAC Breda, I recommended the PRO Compression Shorts from Herzog Medical to many players. These trousers are worn both preventively and curatively. Within football, the incidence of groin and hamstring injuries is high. With Herzog shorts you, as a physiotherapist, have an extra tool to properly manage these problems.”
