Compression shorts for explosive athletes
Herzog Medical is known as the founder and pioneer in the field of compression in sports. Herzog's knee-length socks have been widely used by athletes for many years. Newly added to the range are the PRO Compression Shorts. Do you treat fanatical football players, hockey players or sprinters in your practice? Then you unfortunately hear it all too often: athletes who have suffered a hamstring or groin injury due to vigorous acceleration, sprinting, braking or other explosive movements. Although stretching, muscle strengthening and balance exercises are important in the rehabilitation process, this is often not sufficient. In addition, many patients are careless when it comes to following their exercise program closely. In field sports such as football and hockey, groin injuries are among the top 3 most common injuries, and in football, hamstring injuries account for 12% to 16% of all injuries. How can you, as a physiotherapist, provide extra support to help prevent recurrence?
Hamstring injuries
The injury is usually caused by strong acceleration and acceleration in the middle of the hamstring. The hamstring muscles can also be torn by an abrupt movement, a sliding, high kick or splits, but more towards the buttock. With advancing age, the risk of recurrence increases significantly. In the acute phase you apply the RICE principle: rest, cooling and compression. After some rest you can slowly start building up your training again, where strengthening the hamstring is the priority and you try to prevent repetition with balance exercises.
Groin injuries
In approximately one third of cases, a groin injury occurs acutely. Often after an explosive movement, for example when kicking the ball and abruptly twisting and turning, i.e. during long eccentric contractions. In two-thirds of cases, a groin injury occurs more gradually as a result of overload and over a longer period of time.
The use of the Herzog PRO Compression Shorts
Although exercise therapy, a good training structure and an extensive warm-up can help prevent groin and hamstring injuries, this is often not enough. Herzog therefore has the PRO Sports Compression Shorts developed. These compression shorts are knitted from high-quality microfibers and offer relatively high and decreasing compression from the knee (20 mmHg) to the bottom of the buttock (13 mmHg).
The thigh muscles are relatively thick and heavy muscles and during sports this muscle mass is shaken back and forth considerably. The Herzog PRO Sport Compression Shorts ensures that this shock load is reduced through a relatively high but measured compression. The result of this is that fewer lateral tensile forces are exerted on the muscle and tendon apparatus.
In addition, the counter pressure in the groin region greatly reduces the risk of groin injuries. The compression progression of the shorts also ensures improved blood circulation and return of venous blood with waste products. The microcirculation in the muscles is improved, which prevents muscle fatigue and reduces the risk of cramps.
Custom compression
What makes these shorts so special? The clothing size of the Herzog PRO Compression Shorts is determined based on 3 precisely defined measuring points. This ensures that the fit of the pants is precisely tailored to the athlete's leg contour. Of course, waist size or body weight alone can never be a correct indicator to arrive at trousers that are tailored to the player's specific leg measurements. Via the Herzog custom app you can easily find out which size compression shorts suit you.
Top athletes are convinced
Compression shorts are a popular and valuable tool for athletes who want to get the most out of their performance. More and more professional football players also indicate that they benefit from wearing the Herzog Compression Shorts. The shorts are therefore recommended by the medical staff of various Paid Football Organizations.

Former physiotherapist NAC BREDA
“During my time as a physiotherapist at NAC Breda, I recommended the PRO Compression Shorts from Herzog Medical to many players. These trousers are worn both preventively and curatively. Within football, the incidence of groin and hamstring injuries is high. With Herzog shorts you, as a physiotherapist, have an extra tool to properly manage these problems.”
