What are restless legs?
Restless legs, also known as Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS), are complaints involving an irresistible urge to move the legs. This is often accompanied by an unpleasant sensation in the legs, such as tingling, crawling, itching, or a pulling feeling.
The symptoms usually occur during periods of rest, for example when you are sitting on the couch, lying in bed, or sitting still for a long time during a journey.
Symptoms of restless legs
People with restless legs often experience various complaints. The most common symptoms are a restless feeling in the legs, tingling, crawling sensations, or a pulling feeling deep in the muscles. Additionally, there is often a need to constantly move the legs.
Characteristically, the symptoms mainly occur in the evening or at night. By walking, moving, or stretching the legs, the symptoms often temporarily decrease. As a result, restless legs can have a negative impact on sleep quality and the body's recovery.
