Thrombosis and the Use of Herzog PRO Compression Socks

According to the Thrombosis Foundation, one in four people die from thrombosis. Herzog PRO Compression Stockings have a medical certification and aid in the recovery from thrombosis in the lower leg. Herzog Support Compression Stockings work preventatively to prevent thrombosis in the lower legs. Harald Herzog, founder of compression in the sports world, will take you through the medical application of Herzog Compression Stockings.

What is thrombosis?

Thrombosisis a clot in the bloodstream, often in the lower leg. This accumulation and clumping of solid particles in the blood can suddenly block a blood vessel in your leg.

You understand the consequence: the blood can no longer flow back to the heart and your lower leg becomes red, painful, and swollen. If such a clot breaks loose and is carried in the bloodstream, ending up in a smaller vessel in, for example, the lungs or the brain, the complete blockage will prevent the underlying tissue from being perfused, with all the associated consequences.

I will not elaborate on the development of thrombosis and its underlying causes here. The likelihood of developing thrombosis in your leg (a "deep vein thrombosis" or "DVT") increases the less you move, for example, when your leg is in a cast, during pregnancy, or due to long flights. In all these cases, the calf muscle pump action is absent or minimal.

How can you reduce the risk of thrombosis?

What can you do yourself to reduce the risk? Try to stay as active as possible. If you can't walk, perhaps on a plane, try to regularly spell your name in the air with your toes, for example, or move your feet rhythmically by alternately moving your toes towards your knee and back again. Don't wait too long if you experience these symptoms, and see your GP if you have painful, somewhat thicker, and often red legs. Treatment often involves prescribing so-called blood thinners, and you will also have to wear compression stockings for at least a year. Your healthcare provider/thrombosis service will determine how long you need to use the blood thinners.

For compression stockings, it is important that you wear them daily. As explained on this page, Herzog PRO sports compression stockings officially meet all the requirements for a compression stocking (the 'TEK condition'). An advantage of the Herzog PRO sports compression stocking compared to the 'regular compression stocking' is its modern look and wearing comfort. Compared to other compression stockings, Herzog PRO compression stockings offer optimal heat exchange due to the use of skin-friendly microfibers. Herzog stockings have been specially developed for sports applications from the medical world.

Thrombosis and the use of Support Compression Stockings

After the initial two years during which wearing compression stockings is mandatory, the patient is free to continue wearing compression stockings or not. However, the general advice is to continue doing so, not with the relatively high compression as during the first two years, but with slightly more moderate compression. Here we highly recommend theHerzog Support Compression Stockingsas a safeguard to help prevent recurring complaints.

The Support stockings work preventatively after a thrombosis. In addition, these compression stockings are suitable for daily use.
