Serious partying = serious recovery
The Vierdaagse is not only a physical, but also a mental battle of attrition. Four days of early mornings, long distances, heat, rain, blisters, conga lines; the body takes a real beating. The same, by the way, goes for the partygoers who have been dancing, jumping, and celebrating on their sneakers all week and perhaps slept a little less than was good for them... Whether you walked or partied: recovery is key.
The most important recovery rules
1. Move lightly, but don't stay still
A short walk, some cycling, or gentle swimming helps keep the blood circulation going. Complete rest is often not the best.
2. Eat well, you've earned it
Your body craves fuel. Think proteins for muscle recovery, healthy fats, and sufficient carbohydrates. And yes, fries with mayo are allowed, but also throw in some vegetables. 😉
3. Hydration = recovery
Whether you've been sweating from walking or dancing, your body has lost fluids. Water, electrolytes, or a broth are your best friends.
4. Sleep!
Sleep is when your body does the real recovery work. So, for the next few days, definitely leave your schedule alone.
5. Compression stockings
